Ha Long Bay

If you are looking for a magical location in Vietnam, then you cannot go past Ha Long Bay in the north of the country. With emerald-green waters, limestone islands and mystical caves this destination feels like something out of a movie. In fact, it’s where several movies including King Kong Skull Island and James Bond we’re filmed!

The key to our successful trip in Ha Long bay was a lot of planning and research. You can choose to adventure the bay for one day or stay a few nights aboard one of the Ha long bay cruises. When we were trying to book our cruise, it was a slightly daunting experience as there was so many to choose from!
In the end we chose the three days, two nights cruise with Stella of the Seas.

Day one we arrived on board to be greeted by attentive and friendly cruise staff. As we walked onto the boat they threw rose petals onto us. I have to say this was a very bizarre experience however it did make you feel like a very special guest. Food on board the Yacht was amazing. The on-board chief taught us how to make Vietnamese spring rolls and helped us to understand the culinary culture of the Vietnamese. Day two we explored Lan Ha Bay, went cycling at Viet Hai village and then swimming at a beautiful secluded beach. On our final day, we took a smaller boat to visit Sang Toi also known as the Dark & Bright Cave. I can’t recommend this cruise enough. The staff were beautiful people who were always willing to do everything to make you as comfortable as possible during your stay as well as teach you about their Vietnamese culture.

Vietnam has at least eight UNESCO listed sites, including Ha Long Bay, Hue’s historic sites, the old town of Hoi An and the Champa complex at My Son sanctuary. If you Can’t get to Ha Long Bay, make sure to at least visit one of the eight sites while you’re in Vietnam.
